About Us

Duffy’s Friends is located in Rochester New York and has been saving lives since 1998. We are a 501-C-3 non profit, no-kill organization.

Most of our dogs come from over crowded, high kill shelters with little to no chance of survival. Many are strays, owner discards, or their owners passed away. All are temperament tested and vet checked.

We are amazed that such wonderful animals are homeless or unwanted through no fault of their own. For this reason, our dogs deserve the best of homes and are carefully placed only where they will be a great match for the family. Our dogs live in foster homes where they receive lots of love, basic training and socialization. We provide adopters with accurate information on the pets personality, likes, dislikes, needs, vetting info, etc.

We do not adopt to rental situations, or those with small children. We do look for history of pet ownership, good vet references, safe containment while outdoors, etc. Pets 6 months old and over are already altered. Those younger than 6 months have had age applicable vaccinations, it is mandatory the new owner have their new pet altered by 6 months of age.

Duffy’s Friends will adopt only to traditional fenced yards. Traditional fences are wood, vinyl and chain link. We do not accept electric fences, tie outs or boundary training.

Most of our pets receive several applications, if you have been chosen as the best fit for the pet, you will be contacted within 3 days. We reserve the right to decline any application and are not obligated to disclose the reason for that decision.

Come see Our Pets!

Our dogs are shown at Country Max in Spencerport and PetSaver in Greece at the Stoneridge Plaza. Please email us for dates and times.  We can set up a meet and greet at the foster home with a qualified application.  Please fill out an application and we will reach out to arrange that meet up.

Volunteers for the shows
Our dog showings on Saturdays draw a large crowd! We need volunteers to discuss our pets, help with applications, answer questions, etc. When you see us there, say hello! Or, send us an email at: duffysfriends@gmail.com.

So, who’s Duffy?

During the 1990’s I would walk through City Animal Control and buy the dogs that were scheduled to be put to sleep. As I was walking through the small dog area I found a gray dog, but could not determine his breed. The dog’s hair was so matted that not even the shelter workers and dog wardens could not tell. I thank God every day for that gift. The day I had to let him cross over to rainbow bridge I promised him I would start a rescue group and name the group in his honor. My love for a throw away dog provided me with the reason to keep helping the animals. Duffy’s Friends was incorporated in 1999 and the later received 501C3 status. This rescue group was named in his honor – as all the strays are our friends. —Lori Mufford
